Nu Metal News 16 September 2026, welcome to Wednesday. Germany just dropped one of the biggest festival bills of the decade, a Paris crew came back swinging after eighteen months of silence, a Connecticut project named a Halloween album, and Long Island booked the show a lot of you have been waiting years for. Here is everything worth your time from the last forty eight hours, big names and small ones alike.
Rock am Ring And Rock im Park Load The 2027 First Wave

Rock am Ring and its twin Rock im Park announced their first wave for 2027 on Tuesday, and it is a monster. Both festivals run 4 to 6 June 2027, Rock am Ring at the Nurburgring in the Eifel and Rock im Park in Nuremberg. The headline trio is blink-182, Die Toten Hosen and Bring Me The Horizon, with The Prodigy billed as a very special guest. The organisers are calling this the 41st edition and say the pre-sale has already moved well past a hundred thousand tickets.
For this column the interesting part is how deep the alternative and nu metal end of the bill runs. Faith No More are on there, and so are Evanescence, Poppy, Falling In Reverse, Motionless In White, Turnstile, Parkway Drive, Beartooth, I Prevail, Lorna Shore and Imminence. Motionless In White booked seven European headline shows around this festival run two days ago, so the German dates now sit inside a proper 2027 European campaign rather than standing on their own.
Falling In Reverse land on the bill the same week they put Corey Taylor and Serj Tankian on the same song, which is the kind of timing that sells a festival slot before anyone has seen a set list. Evanescence and Poppy arrive off the back of that Amy Lee and Courtney LaPlante performance everyone has been replaying. Faith No More on a 2027 poster is the headline for older heads, though, and it is the booking most likely to pull back the people who stopped buying festival tickets a decade ago.
One quirk worth understanding before you buy. The two festivals share a lineup but rotate it, so a band playing Friday at the Ring plays Sunday at the Park and the other way round. blink-182, Falling In Reverse, Billy Talent, The Prodigy, Beartooth, Donots, Poppy, Simple Plan and Trailerpark travel as one day. Die Toten Hosen, Turnstile, Faith No More, Bad Religion, Bullet For My Valentine, I Prevail, Nothing But Thieves, Orbit Culture and Ski Aggu travel as another. Bring Me The Horizon, Parkway Drive, Evanescence, Amon Amarth, Arch Enemy, Imminence, Lorna Shore and Motionless In White make up the third.
Worth noting that the outlets covering this have not agreed on who the actual toppers are. Several led with Bring Me The Horizon, blink-182 and Turnstile, while the festivals own announcement puts blink-182, Die Toten Hosen and Bring Me The Horizon at the top and lists Turnstile a line below. On a bill this flat it is closer to a marketing decision than a fact. More names are coming, which is normal for a first wave this far out. If you are already pricing flights, our metal festival outfit guide covers what actually survives three days in a field in June.
Rise Of The Northstar Come Back Swinging With NERV(E)
Paris quartet Rise Of The Northstar dropped a video single called “NERV(E)” on Tuesday, their first new music since the 2025 album Chapter 04: Red Falcon Super Battle! Neo Paris War!! on Kuromaku Corp Records. If you have never gone near them, they are the band that welded New York hardcore to mid nineties nu metal and then dressed the whole thing in shonen manga, and they have been doing it with total conviction for well over a decade.
“NERV(E)” is Rise Of The Northstar doing the thing only they do: hardcore delivery over nu metal groove, verses barked rather than sung, a chorus written as a chant instead of a melody. The video is up on their own channel and it is worth watching rather than just streaming, because the visual side of this band has always carried as much of the identity as the riffs do. Play it loud and you will understand why they close European festival tents.
No album has been announced to go with it, and no label has been named for this single, so treat it as a statement of intent rather than a campaign launch. Rise Of The Northstar are one of the very few European bands who can play a nu metal set to a hardcore crowd and a hardcore set to a metal crowd without changing a note. A year out from the 2027 festival announcements, that is a useful thing to be reminded of.
Dethwish Name The Record: Ruby, Out 31 October
This is the one to pay attention to today. Dethwish is a Connecticut project that files itself under nu metal and hyperpunk, and this week it announced a new album called Ruby for 31 October along with a lead single, “One of Us Is the Killer”, featuring fellow Connecticut band Montclair. Yes, the title is also the name of a Dillinger Escape Plan record. Reusing a title that loaded is a choice, not an accident.
The pitch for the album is one of the better ones we have read all month. Dethwish describes Ruby as a record “about losing a friend, yourself, and a girl from New Jersey on the early internet”, which tells you more about the emotional register than any genre tag could. The single itself arrives with a plain statement of excitement rather than a press release: never more excited to release a song, some of the best work so far, and a guest spot from close friends in the Connecticut scene.
Musically this sits in the space a lot of younger artists are working in right now, where the down tuned riff and the shouted hook from 1999 meet the blown out digital production of the last five years. It is nu metal in the sense that Y2K nu metal was itself a collision rather than a genre. The song is streaming everywhere now. There is no official video for it yet, so if you want to see the band you will need to catch them live.
Speaking of which, Dethwish are out on a fall run that finishes with a record release show in Connecticut on 28 November, and the dates in between include support slots with DAMAGE and Sheer Terror plus a Space Ballroom bill alongside 40 Below Summer and Skin Crawl. That last one is a genuinely great pairing: a New Jersey band who were doing this in 2001 on the same stage as a Connecticut act doing it now.

Featured band: Dethwish
Dethwish come out of Connecticut and make nu metal that has been raised on the internet rather than on radio rock. The guitars are tuned into the floor, the hooks are shouted, and underneath all of it there is a pop songwriter who is not embarrassed about wanting you to sing along. Ruby is their Halloween record, and the writing is personal in a way the genre does not always allow itself to be: friendship, self, and a relationship that lived mostly on a screen.
“One of Us Is the Killer” is the door in. The Montclair feature gives the track a second voice to push against, and the Connecticut scene the two bands come from has been quietly excellent for a couple of years now. If you want the record on the day, the pre-save is live and the fall dates run through to the release show on 28 November.
Half Me Pull King Out Of Dogma
German outfit Half Me put out “King” with an official video on Tuesday, the fifth song revealed from their album Dogma, which lands 23 October on Arising Empire. Five singles deep is a lot of a record to give away before release day, and the band have earned the right to do it: each one has shown a different side of the album rather than five variations on the same single.
Half Me sit right on the seam this site cares about. They are filed as metalcore, but the low end groove, the half time drops and the clean hooks owe as much to 2001 as they do to 2016. “King” is the most direct thing they have released from this cycle, and the video is up on Arising Empire’s channel if you want to see it rather than just stream it.
They also have a North American October, supporting Thrown alongside Norma Jean and BOLTCUTTER, with dates across New Jersey, Pennsylvania, Connecticut, Massachusetts, Michigan, Wisconsin, Minnesota, Missouri, Florida, South Carolina and North Carolina. That is a serious first proper run for a band still introducing themselves over here, and it means Dogma arrives with them already in the country. October keeps filling up, as we said last weekend, and this is another reason why.
Glassjaw Book Brooklyn For 23 November

Glassjaw have announced a headline show at Music Hall Of Williamsburg in Brooklyn on 23 November, and it is their only dedicated headline date left on the 2026 calendar. Tickets go on sale this Friday, 18 September, at 10am local. Given the size of the room and the fact that this is the last one, it is going to be a fast sell.
The rest of their year is festival work: Sick New World in Fort Worth on 24 October and the Orlando stop of Vans Warped Tour across 14 and 15 November. A headline show slotted between those two means a proper Glassjaw set rather than a forty minute festival cut, which for this band matters more than it does for most. Their catalogue does not translate to a compressed set.
It also lands days after Daryl Palumbo said in an interview that he and Justin always have a bunch of ideas going around. Nobody has announced a record and we are not going to pretend otherwise, but a Long Island band playing their only headline show of the year in Brooklyn, weeks after the singer talks about material, is a room worth being in. Glassjaw have never been a band that does things in the usual order.
BORE Send Feral Back Out Through Ferret Music

BORE are getting their album Feral reissued on 6 November through the resurrected Ferret Music, the label that signed them earlier this year as part of its relaunch. There are two vinyl variants, orange smoke limited to 100 and metallic black ice limited to 250, plus a deluxe CD. Pre-orders are live now.
The deluxe edition is the interesting one. It carries remixed versions of the three tracks from their Crisis Actor split, “Atonia”, “Craven” and a cover of System Of A Down’s “Suite-Pee”, and it adds pre-production demos of the Feral material under working titles including “Fangs & Snakes”, “Feed” and “Deadbed”. Demos with the wrong names on them are usually the most revealing thing on a reissue, because you get to hear which decisions were made late.
Covering “Suite-Pee” is a sharp choice. It is the opening track on System Of A Down’s debut and one of the strangest things on it, and a mathcore band taking it on says something about where their heads are. System have been in the news over here recently too, having finally put “Johnny” on streaming after years of it living on a B-sides compilation. Good week for people who like the back end of that catalogue.
Ferret being back and pressing records in 2026 is worth a paragraph on its own. The label built a lot of the metalcore and mathcore canon in the early 2000s before going quiet, and a reissue programme with limited variants and genuine bonus material is exactly the right way to restart it. BORE keep the record on Bandcamp as well if you want to hear it before you commit to vinyl.
Godsmack Put Two December Dates On The Board

Godsmack have added two December shows to the end of a year that was already full: 20 December at Harrah’s Cherokee Casino Resort in Cherokee, North Carolina, and 27 December at Live! Casino & Hotel in Hanover, Maryland. Presales started Tuesday morning and the general on-sale is Friday 18 September at 10am Eastern.
Casino shows get dismissed and they should not be. The rooms are small by Godsmack standards, the sound is usually excellent, and a band this deep into a catalogue tends to loosen the set list when they are not playing to thirty thousand people. If you have only ever seen them from the back of an amphitheatre, a theatre sized Godsmack show is a genuinely different night.
These sit on the end of a fall run with Stone Temple Pilots and Dorothy that has been working its way across the West Coast, the Midwest and the Northeast into late October. Two dates in the week between Christmas and New Year is a small booking, but it is the kind of thing that tells you a band still wants to be playing rather than resting.
Looking Ahead: Friday, Then October
Friday 18 September is doing a lot of work this week. Two on-sales land at 10am, Glassjaw in Brooklyn and Godsmack in the casinos, and both are the kind of date that disappears inside the hour. It is also new music Friday, and the release lists are heavy. Meanwhile Louder Than Life takes over Louisville this weekend, with 200 Stab Wounds among the bands using the festival to launch an album campaign.
October is where this month has been pointing all along. Dogma from Half Me on the 23rd, with the band already touring North America behind Thrown when it arrives, and then Dethwish drop Ruby on Halloween. November picks up the thread with the BORE reissue on the 6th, Glassjaw at Music Hall Of Williamsburg on the 23rd and the Dethwish release show in Connecticut on the 28th.
Further out, the 2027 festival season has started taking shape a full nine months early. Rock am Ring and Rock im Park have their first wave, Motionless In White have their European headline run, and more announcements will follow through the autumn. If you are the sort of person who plans a summer around a poster, now is when you start.
Get Your Band In This Column
Half the bands that end up in here are not signed to anyone and did not have a publicist send us anything. They filled in a form. If you are in a band, or you run a small label, or you put on shows, send us the record. We read every submission and we cover what we can verify, whether you have ten monthly listeners or ten thousand.
Head to Get Featured, tell us who you are, where you are from and what you have coming, and drop in your links and a photo. A release date, a video or a run of shows gives us something concrete to write about, but we would rather hear from you too early than not at all.
